NaNoWriMo2021 Update

It’s already almost halfway through November and what a wild ride this has been already!

I wanted to give my wonderful readers an update on my National Novel Writing Month 2021 challenge. I have been faithfully writing every single day this month thus far (sometimes more than once a day too!) and have hit over 36000 words in my story, called The Year of the Winding Road. It’s over 100 pages already and I still have more to write. I hit the 14 day streak as well – I made a wonderful little graphic about it, which i am sure you all are able to see.

As some may or may not know yet, my husband challenged me to do NaNoWriMo this year. He also challenged me to do a realistic fiction story instead of my usual fantasy for the genre. I had recently come across my writing journal for my junior year English class (11th grade for those who may not know what junior year typically is) and had been reading it. That spurred me to think about my high school days.

So when I thought about this challenge in the latter days of October, I decided I would write a fictional account of the 1997/1998 school year. So while this novel is based somewhat on true things that happened to my family, friends and me in the late 1990s, it is also a bit dramatized too. And since it’s fiction, there’s also some things that didn’t happen at all in my life that I am writing into the story, since well, I have creative license over the whole project.

I have 17 days left in this month and while the story wasn’t planned out in the beginning, it is starting to become planned out now. I also have to budget out the rest of the story in my mind and pace myself, because I get a badge if I update 1667 words each day the entire month. So I am slowing down a bit on this story and focusing on other things.

Like the novella I still need to finish editing for the Portals Series. Xavier’s story is being told, titled Emissary, and I have a few rounds of edits done. There’s also a fourth full length novel in the saga that’s starting to come to life in my head, as well as the rest of the novellas already in the first rounds of drafts. There’s also this blogging AND the genealogy blog. And this all is just a “side hustle gig” to a very real job and life.

I tend to keep myself very busy.

If you’re interested in checking out the fantasy works I have written, check out my Portals Series. If you are interest in my other online endeavors, check out the drop down menu.

And as always, #WriteYourOwnStory
