I write.
It’s what I do.
So I often compose wonderful sentences in my mind that my fingers furiously try to keep track of when I am either handwriting them down, or when I am sitting at my computer.
The words flow out, creating a lyrical jumble of words.
But sometimes, I write words that I love that really don’t seem to later work well.
In addition to the novel I am writing for NaNoWriMo2021, I am also working on the rough outline and ideas for the fourth novel of the Portals Series. I have begun to get the voices of the characters telling the story in my head. But writing them down, there is some conflict.
I have written a paragraph that worked beautifully when one particular voice spoke it to me long ago…. but now it seems to fall flat. It doesn’t work for me anymore. So I was mentally trying to make it work. It may be one of the reasons why, when my body woke me up on my day off just before five am one morning, I couldn’t seem to fall back asleep.
My mind harped on the fact that this paragraph couldn’t work. It went in circles over it.
“But that already says this…”
“But your character will be like this….”
“But that already says this….”
Finally, my mind gave me permission to just change it. But I had to work towards that permission. Because I make rules for myself. It boggles others’ minds that even I can’t change the rules I make for myself without arguing…. with myself….
But onward I go. Just like always.
Aside from entering my first official full year of my fifth decade today, there has been lots of stuff is going on right now in my world, hence the reason why I haven’t been posting much this week.
I hit a 21 day streak today on my #NaNoWriMo2021 novel. It’s very long and coming together, and I am enjoying writing it. I still don’t know if I will ever publish this one, although I have allowed a few people to actually read it.
I am working on edits on the next novella in The Portals Series. This one is called Emissary and it tells one of the stories of Xavier, one of the heirs of Douglagal. I am hoping to release it the first week of December. I already am starting to plan the edits for the next novella in the series (because I have twelve already written…. three of which are already published). That one is called Halfling and deals with another portal of dragons. It’s slated for publication in January
Some may know I work a full time job in retail, and with the holidays around the corner, it’s been a little crazy (but doable). I’ve come home exhausted as a result, both physically and emotionally, so sitting down to do some writing sometimes this week has been a difficult task. But I push on, since that’s what I do and get the job done.
I also have been trying to lead a somewhat normal life, which sometimes is hard when one has several prominent birthdays in November on top of Thanksgiving and planning for Christmas.
Speaking of which – this week on Kindle, a few of my novels will be on sale, and one novella will be free! I will post details on Tuesday the 23rd on those.
