I am still here – Redux

I actually handwrote this entry out before typing it here. It’s been awhile since I did that, but often writing things down on paper, while time consuming, is more productive creatively for me.

My dearest, most magical readers…..

You’ve probably been wondering where I have been. It’s been awhile since I posted anything on the blog, let alone an original post.

The truth of the matter is, I have been hit with severe writer’s block lately.

Part of that writer’s block has to deal with the fact that I feel like I am repeating myself over and over again. But there are other reasons.

There are still a great deal of little voices in my head, engrained there as part of throwaway comments from others spoken in the past, some over and over again. I feel like my writing is not good enough. I feel like it is not original enough. I feel like I am not talented enough. Part of me is reminded that my writing is nothing but a waste of time and effort. It is not productive. No one will care about anything I write or do.

But I constantly have this inner monologue going on inside my head and a desire to get it out.

Another part of it is I just seem to run out of time. The full time job does command a great deal of attention and energy. The house has chores that need to be completed. I now have five felines that I have committed to caring for instead of three, since we recently added kitten Countess Carmen Sandiego and stray cat Commander Reginald Endicott Barclay IV to our brood that already had Sir Inigo Montoya, Queen River Song and Duke Peregrin Took. There is always some sort of shenanigans going on with them, especially the kitten, who brings chaos to a new level. (She has already walked across my keyboard three times as I type this out.)

Then there is the fact that often when I find the time to write, I have no desire to do so. Besides the aforementioned negativity that goes on in my head, certain circumstances have also made my life different. Decisions I had no control over were made that have made me question my worth. Friends I once counted on as family severely broke the bonds of trust we had. I have had to deconstruct belief systems I held on to for years as a result and am finding new ways of connection to fill the void that was left behind. Some of the blog posts I had once written here played heavily into those connections and were discontinued simply because it is far too emotional for me to continue them. That kind of upheaval seriously damaged the creativity as well.

Plus, with whatever free time I have, I am still getting outside as much as I can for my own mental health. I am still geocaching, planning adventures with some of those who helped to fill the void and learning to tap back into that creativity I once was able to use to write. Traveling takes time and I often don’t get a chance to jot thoughts down while on the road, especially when I am the one behind the wheel. But my jumbled thoughts are coming back to cohesive words that I am getting out. It will come back full circle, I hope.

All of that being said, I need to get my writings back on track. I need to finish writing the tales that fill my head at the most inopportune moments. My serial novel sequel to The Magician, titled The Trickster is being completed and plans have been set in motion to start posting that here on this very blog in December. Then there are the future tales in my Portals Series. Earvin’s tale has been fully written and needs to be edited, with hopes of getting it published by February. Taylor’s story is written and needs polishing. Noor, Wils, Cato, Ellie, Nabus, Carah and others are all waiting for me to get around to completing their own narratives. My lessons on geocaching need to be continued. I want to revamp some of my historical articles since they have been noticed by others, especially my series on the ancestor who made ropes for some of the more famous hangings in Pennsylvania. Then there is just the usual things I write… the musings about hikes, the posts that make this blog (though I need to find new avenues that the one I had been using for inspiration to write those).

That being said…. here’s a teaser trailer for The Trickster:

I have grand plans for this creativity that is renewing itself once more. It’s finding the time to carry them all out and still feel productive in other aspects of my life that I need to balance. But that’s the magic of this story that I write. There is hope and peace here. There is joy. There is love. And even in the waning sunlight as the days get shorter, the light of creativity is being brought back. I’ll keep writing, no matter what.

Stay magical, friends.
