This was not the blog post I intended to write when I began to outline my notes on Sunday evening. I will eventually finish that post, half done and along a similar vein as this, but for now, it’s on the back burner. I was working away this past Monday on that blog post when I got a notification on my phone to check one of my social media accounts. The news I received in doing was completely unexpected and left me reeling and dumbfounded.
The news that caused me this shock is not what I will focus on though. I will say that I think the shockwaves will ripple for a very long time as a number of us here in this community were blindsided by this tragedy.
Blindsided.
Everyone knows the word, but until something surprising happens unexpectedly to us, we don’t fully comprehend the meaning of the word. To be blindsided is when something seemingly out of the blue happens that makes us stop and find that we’re grasping at straws mentally. We’ve lost our bearings. Our reality has been checked hardcore.
Being blindsided can be devastating and mind-numbing. It leaves us sad, aghast, dismayed and even angry. It is a shock and awe kind of situation that causes vulnerability, speechless moments and avolition.
The moments that blindside us even lead to the sensational…. Gossip is spoken and speculations are made.
And that’s what has happened here in my little swath of the Midwest. Last night, I posted this to my Instagram….
And while the blog that I am posting tonight is not the one my friends thought I would be writing (fear not – it’s still in my mind though)…. This is the one I needed to write today.
Keep writing those stories of your lives, even as you’re blindsided by the tragedies within the world.

Being blindsided can be paralyzing at times, for sure. Focusing on the next first step is the only way I know to make it through. I love the lesson you received from your sleeping companion 💞💞💞
