Find Your Own Happy

I have always preferred to walk instead of drive somewhere, especially if its under a mile. Often, when I have a day off from the full time job, I find myself doing a great deal of walking around the city I live in. It’s my time to think and compose stuff in my head so that I can write about it later.

Friday was such a day. I needed to run some errands and walked roughly only a mile and a half, but I walked through three of our city’s little local parks on my route, taking in the sunshine, the wind, the rainstorm that was drifting in, and the early fall of the prairie restoration one of the parks is doing.

By the time I got home, the sun had disappeared and clouds had rolled in. They weren’t the dark ominous clouds of a roaring thunderstorm, but the gentle and hazy ones that told me that only rain was coming.

Not that I wouldn’t have minded a thunderstorm……

I had just bought a new lightweight rain coat for my full time job because sometimes I am in the position where I have to go outside in the rain. I had not had a chance to try it out yet, so when the rains rolled in, I put it on and went outside.

And yes, I danced in the rain.

I have been told I am a big kid. After all, my favorite loves are unicorns, cats, and finding joy in little things.

I’ve been told I am “too old” to like unicorns and dancing in the rain. But that’s where I find my joy. That’s what makes me happy. It’s what inspires my stories.

So leave room for fairies to dance. Search for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Keep enjoying the things you love without letting anyone rain on your parade. And if they do rain on your parade, try to dance in the rain.

Find your own happy.

Write your own story.
