Apologies

Dear magical readers,

If you logged in yesterday to read the next chapter of The Year of the Winding Road and discovered it wasn’t there, I do apologize.

Because I am being pulled in several different directions with work, finding time to pursuit my other hobby of hiking and geocaching, and even other stories in my Portals Series and such, I’ve let the edits of this novel go on the back burner. I forgot to finish them this week.

Truth be told, my heart right now isn’t in it on this memoir at the moment. As I post on every chapter:

While this story does have events in it that were inspired by true life and the people who made them happen, all of it is fictional and made up.  The people, aside from the popular culture figures that pepper this novel, are made up using qualities and quirks I have observed in the people I have met in real life.  The places are also made up.  The popular culture figures are used fictionally, though I tried to remain true to them in my writing.

The emotions though are very real.  High school is a time for angst.  High school is a time for finding one’s self and learning who and what one will become.  I tried to keep that ribbon alive in this piece of fiction.

But there are also elements of truth in each of my chapters. Yes, I have taken some liberties and let my imagination run wild, but the truth often is stranger than fiction. Many of the characters are based on people I have known in real life, some of whom I am in some sort of contact with and I have to smooth over the depictions of them to make it easier to read. This story, which was written as a way to heal some of the hurt I felt as a teenager, has inadvertently brought others back to the front in my mind, especially some of the current chapters to edit.

I am planning a rewrite of some of those chapters and planning to pick this up again…. probably in later winter 2026 when the cold keeps me indoors and I have some time to just sit and work. But for now, I am going to put this aside again and take a bit to let the thoughts and memories and emotions of those years have some time to process again. I also have a five chapter short story in regards to Lady Portia, the daughter of my beloved Portal Seeker, that I am planning on posting in the meantime.

The chapters that are posted remain though…. and eventually the story of Brianna and her family, her budding relationship with Patrick Worthington and the life she leads will be posted for all to read.

But for now…. it’s time for a different story.

Stay magical, friends.
