Aren’t you done yet?

It should not be a surprise to any regular readers of this blog that I love to hike and geocache. I often talk about how these adventures inspire my stories. And there is truth to that statement if you read ANY of my stories.

That’s a hint, by the way….

I recently finished a challenge to get the 25 geocaches Warren County Conservation Board releases every year in the lands that they manage. There’s a number of videos on those adventures over on my YouTube channel (I did one for every adventure) and photos on my other socials, but here’s a quick rundown that I did when I completed the challenge:

Note that I did forget one adventure in that video (Great Western Trail on 7 April 2025), something I realized later, after a friend messaged me to ask if I could give them a hint where the cache was.

Any who.

When I mention to others that I finished the challenge but am still planning to go out caching, I often get asked:

“Aren’t you done yet?”

As if I only geocache to find one challenge. As if I only hike outdoors in the spring. As if the adventures don’t continue even as the challenges conclude. As if I am never going to go on another adventure.

Anyone who has read my Portals Series (there’s like three people who have read the entire series that’s published so far…) knows that there are always more adventures. There are always stories to tell and things to discover and magic to be shared. There are places to revisit and even friends to see again. And though the books are fantasy, they mirror real life in that aspect as well.

And even though one of my challenges is now done, there are more to be had. There’s more to see and more to do. And there are friends to meet up with and have adventures with (I’m looking at you, JC, and our big trip coming soon!) And like in the stories I write, there are new people to meet as well.

Enjoy some random geocaching photos from over the years…..Including ones with new friends…. creatively edited of course!

So, in answer to the question “Aren’t you done yet?”

No. No, I am not.

There is plenty more to see and do. And there are geocaches everywhere, including plenty just in the greater metro area of my tiny swath in the Midwest to keep me occupied for awhile!

Happy faces indicate finds….. yeah, I have many to go! And new ones are always popping up too!

One challenge IS indeed done. But there are trails to explore, people to meet, and magic to find. And since this one little geocacher hasn’t done it all yet, nor will she ever fully do it all… I keep trekking. For I am the Portal Seeker of this world (and have a travel bug somewhere in the world with that name as well!) and I keep seeking the magic and adventure as I trek along in this life, mundane as it may seem to some. For that is why my own dear Portal Seeker chooses the life he has.

Again, that will make sense if you read my stories.

So any who. The correct answer to “Aren’t you done yet?” is HECK NO.

Stay magical, friends.

Write your own story.

  1. “If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step, you know it’s not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take. That’s why it’s your path,” – Joseph Campbell

I like this quote and I find it fitting for your adventures.
