I tried.

I have tried my best to write a stunning blog post today about the sermon I watched online on Sunday. It’s in my drafts folder as we speak.

But the words…. they just don’t seem to come well.

Even I, who almost always has a constant monologue going in my head of things I should write and do and say and be, even I can’t always find the words to express my thoughts.

Or they fall flat.

Or I end up on a huge tangent and can’t get myself back to just making the succinct point and I feel frustrated.

Or I just can’t make the connections that should be made and don’t want to force any of the words.

Or I start thinking about everything negative that has ever been spoken to me about my writing or my views.

Why do you say that? What is wrong with you? Why can’t you be normal?

Then I just give up on what I was trying to say.

The other half will tell you I do this multiple times. He hears me throwing stuff away, be it literally or even just figuratively. I can’t write, I shout. I suck as a writer. I say these things because I have heard them over and over again…. and so when the words won’t form the way I think others expect them to form, then I think they are true again and again and again.

But deep down, I know those voices aren’t true. Which is why I am constantly trying again and again. I keep the words, hoping to make something new from them. Or there is a connection made months or years down the line.

The words will come when they aren’t forced. The stories flow when they are inspired. And until then, I just keep going. And even though this isn’t the blog post I wanted to write….. it is the blog post that needed to be written.

Because there is magic in the words, just as there is magic in each story, written or told. And this is as much a part of my story as the more beautifully written posts.

Stay magical, friends.

Write your own story.

  1. Hang in there, K. Sounds like the words you want just aren’t done fermenting yet. Keep changing the script those voices are trying to give you, the words will come when they are ready.

I think we all have our fallow times, when the page seems lifeless and barren. After a rest, the words spring forth more alive than ever. πŸ’ž
