April has been a crazy month… so far

I’m writing this as I have said goodbye to an out-of-town friend who has visited for the last few days. As I pack away the air mattress and wash the sheets and towels, there’s a certain sadness to saying goodbye. As I clean the kitchen, I know I will miss my friend until he plans his next visit. But there is also a certain glee in the fact that I will be getting back to my routines and a sense of normalcy.

Don’t get me wrong… I enjoy seeing friends and I appreciate having them here. But I also value my solitude. And while that sounds selfish, it’s not. I need this quiet down time that I call my own to just listen and be. I need it to be creative. I need it to catch up on my thoughts and be myself.

And since this month has been crazy, I haven’t had much time to do that.

April begins the Warren County Geocaching Adventure here in my little swath of the Midwest, and I have been very zealous in getting the 25 geocaches that were released this month. I have been documenting them in video format over on my YouTube channel, which is widgeted below:

It means a great deal of hiking, but it’s been a fun journey so far. I have found eleven of the cards…. and have plans to go for more.

I also have been doing some writing. Scion is almost finished (the first draft at least) and tells the story of Ariadne and her doubtfulness of her ability to one day become the Dynast of All She Surveys. Chronologically, it falls between Berh’s story Heir to the Seeker and the epilogue in Heirs to the Realm. It will be the next novella in my Portals Series. I also posted the final chapter to The Magician, which (shameless self-promotion here) is always free to read on this her blog if you want to try something out!

I am also doing a great deal of work volunteer-wise for my church via the kid’s programming, membership stuff, and helping with the Norwalk Ministerial Association as I can. I am gearing up for summer in more ways than one, since I now have a huge yard I must tend to.

And I am still trying to find ways to be magical.

So I need that semi-selfish kind of quiet from time to time.

So as I fold the sheets and put them away in the linen cabinet, pack the air mattress and carry it down to the basement, and make meal plans to feed just two instead of three…. I take a breath and just be.

Stay magical, friends.

Write your own story.

And if you feel led to, read one of my stories. After all, they are all as magical as I am trying to be!

  1. I completely understand the need for routine and alone time. For me it’s a necessity to reset, renew, and recharge. I adore my friends and I love the time we have together, but it’s a fine balance. Too much ‘peopling’ and I find myself way too edgy and short tempered.
