Apocalyptic.
That is one word that brings terror to some. After all, the apocalypse, according to the Christian Bible, is the final destruction of the world. Numerous people have predicted this event. Many have failed.
But the word doesn’t mean all of this trepidation and finality. It doesn’t even have to be a scary word, even though it is. The original Greek word from which our English word hails (ἀποκάλυψις or apokalypsis) had two meanings: to lay bear or make naked and to disclose truths, instructions, or events that were once unknown and make them visible to all. In short, the word means “to reveal”. Sometimes, what is revealed in an apocalypse is a hard pill to swallow, an idea that makes one uncomfortable, an even that blindsides all that are involved. It may even make us feel like we are naked and vulnerable.
Like the ordinary man that is revealed behind the great wizard’s curtain in the Emerald City, sometimes the apocalyptic revelation one receives is a giant letdown, a catastrophe because one counts on something to happen and it doesn’t. The ordinary knows no magic. It cannot send one home. It has become a disaster. But it also reveals that, all along, one has had the tools to cope and find a way, to journey home, to find that magic in the moment, to write the story.
But sometimes, one also learns that they can’t or won’t be able to write the whole story. The truths revealed may not paint the whole picture, just a small fraction of it. We are left wondering why. We are left angry because things have happened that we don’t understand. The apocalypse has left us with more questions than answers. Curiosity, speculation and assumptions cause us to dictate that we need to fill in the rest of the picture somehow. Rumors abound. Choices are made. Lives are ruined.
But do we need to know the whole story to share love, peace, hope, joy, light and magic?
In these days of cancel cultures and rapid and brutal snap judgements, may we be content with just knowing what has been revealed to us. May we be content to keep writing our own portion of the story, extending those gifts of grace we have received to those who may have blindsided us. May we keep trying to be the light of the world, the love and peace, joy and hope that this place needs to make life bearable.
We haven’t had the whole apocalypse occur for us, but we can still shine magically bright and continue to write the story, or at least our own stories.
Stay magical, dear friends.

That big event may not happen in our life time. But once we have passed away, it is that day for us.

The “apocalyptic” event I was referring to wasn’t the one in the Bible that everyone thinks of. It’s the ones that happen to us throughout our lifetimes that change our trajectories or cause us to pause and reflect…. One in particular happened this week to one of the circles in which I move, hence the post.

Oh I see! The mind automatically goes to that big event that will end the world. Sorry I misunderstood.

Beautifully said, K! May we indeed be content with what is revealed to us, but never cease striving to learn more and broaden our knowledge.
If we keep shining our Light, the darkness will never be able to over come it 💞💞💞

But sometimes, we aren’t able to broaden our understanding…. especially if the story has to do with what other people may have done or not done…. and it gets messy if we try to find out anything. I hope in those cases, we are content with just sitting and writing our own stories and not wondering and speculating and gossiping about theirs.
