To new beginnings and old memories

So I am sitting in my new OWNED abode at my computer, having just spent the first night in what the other half and I hope is our forever home.

I’m surrounded by boxes and it was weird sleeping here last night since while the bed was my own, the room was different and the noises were strange. Some stuff is still at the rented abode. And that place is in dire need of a clean… which will take place over the next weekend.

But the other half and I have almost closed a chapter on a life that was fourteen years in the making. You see, we’ve been living in apartments for the nearly seventeen years of our marriage, having made the move from one apartment to another almost fourteen years ago. And while living in our last place, we have seen it all. There have been crazy neighbors, like the dude who set the dumpster literally on fire and the couple who decided to have a very heated argument outside my open first floor window and then told me to mind my own business while I was sitting in my apartment. But there have also been some great friends, like the across-the-hall neighbor who shared whatever he baked with us (while he was also “baked”…. but that’s a different story) and the ones who made sure my other half was okay during the day when I had to go to work just after his major hospitalization. There were times when we were stuck in the abode for a few days because the snow plows couldn’t clear the parking lot soon enough after major snows and times when the weather was so nice we had a small party out in the front yard with other tenants sharing whatever we had. There was good, bad, and mundane. And it was home for almost fourteen years.

Now we live in our own space. We haven’t yet met any neighbors, though I am sure in the coming days or weeks we will. Yards separate us now instead of walls. We are now responsible for whatever maintenance is needed, but don’t need permission to do things such as paint walls and put up permanent fixtures.

This is an adventure for us. One that will require patience as we put things where they need to go (we have a place for everything, just not everything in its place just yet!) and some determination. But this is a new chapter in our story, a new place to make memories and magic. And we will fill this new place with hope, love, joy and peace as the years go on.

Stay magical, all.

I know I will.

  2. Congratulations to you both! 💞💞💞 Hopefully the new place feels like home quickly….it’s always interesting getting to know a new abode…learning its quirks, habits, noises, needs, etc. How is the feline side of your family handling the change?
