I didn’t know you wrote…..

So if you’ve been paying attention to some of my other social medias, you’d know I have published another book in my Portals Series. This one tells the story of the heirs of the Dynast, the Cleric, and the Portal Seeker, continuing the tales of Delphian, the Realm of Original Magic, and even Earth itself. There’s some sadness and death, but there’s also hope and love. There’s also a great deal of magic and adventure, just like all of my other stories.

It’s titled Heirs to the Realm and it’s available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited and in paperback format over on Amazon.

That being said…. I am still amazed at how many of the people that are in my face-to-face circles still don’t know that I write more than just this “silly little blog” or the articles on history and genealogy (that I haven’t worked on in about two years, but they are out there!). They don’t realize that I have written books too and seventeen at that. They only see the little snippets on social media and the non-fiction posts that I write here and go about their lives. And that’s okay, even if it’s funny when they look at me with surprise when I finally admit I do indeed have an entire fantasy series I am actively writing as well.

I will admit that it is hard for me to tell some people that I write books. Words flow easily beautifully onto paper or typed into my computer. It’s easy for me to put into print what I want to say, since I am able to change words as needed and edit my sentences and my tone. It’s not quite as easy to do when I am speaking, which means I am often reluctant to tell people I write books in person unless they already had an inclination that I was writing at all.

There’s also the matter of the genre in which I write. Fantasy stories have long held a connotation of being silly and fluff. I have had people tell me to my face they will never read what I write because they don’t read fantasy, or they don’t read fiction, or they don’t like all the silly fluff. But my series is just as much a part of me as is this very blog and the writings I do elsewhere. They aren’t fluff. While there is magic, there is also life lessons and the same threads of hope, love, peace, and joy woven into them as is woven into the blog. And it hurts a bit when someone doesn’t give me the benefit of the doubt when it comes to those stories.

Which is why I am forever grateful for the ones who do give me the chance. I have a handful of people who have picked up my stories and read most of them if not all. I have people who share my work with others. And while it doesn’t garner me fame or fortune (I’ve made sixty US dollars so far this year), I am proud that I have the books out there in the world for others to see.

So magical friends, if you didn’t know I wrote books…. SURPRISE! I do. You can see ALL of the books I wrote over on my Amazon profile by clicking this sentence, or any time I post a blog post by reading the footer section (does anyone read all the way through? *wink*). Of course, there is always The Magician to read as well . That’s my serial novel that is being posted chapter by chapter on this blog and becoming available in audiobook format over on the other half’s podcast as well.

But regardless of anything else, I will continue to write all these silly little things even if only a few people read them.

Stay magical, all.

  1. I’ll admit, I’ve never read any fantasy books, well ok, harry potter, the first book only, so is that classed as fantasy?
Anyway, I intend to read some of yours, since I love your blog!
If you write books as well as you write non fiction posts, I’m already hooked!

  2. I know where you’re coming from, being a self-published independent author. I make very little money, and I’m constantly working on marketing my books and growing my readership, but the pride in having written my books is still there. I write under a pseudonym, as I was shy at first of putting myself out there, potentially to ridicule. I’ve gotten over that, but I still like hiding the real me behind the mask. Many readers have let me know that they enjoyed my books, which makes me feel good and that it was all worthwhile–it’s good to give people an enjoyable experience. Hang in there and good luck with yours.

  3. I don’t think some people realize what an intricate dance writing fantasy is! As the author, you are responsible for creating a whole new world, everything in it, and make it work in a logical fashion…while weaving a story that ensnares the reader and holds them from page to page and book to book. Keep sharing your magic, K….many of us don’t think it’s silly at all. πŸ’žπŸ’žπŸ’ž
