Right now, there seems to be a great deal of focus on everything that’s not good in the world. The world seems to be bombarding us with constant bad news. While that focus is warranted, it also can be very overwhelming, especially when one looks around and sees nothing but contretemps, vitriol, frustration, and anger.
There is a great deal of cynicism in the world. There is a great deal of madness. There’s a great deal of division and hurt and name-calling. There are people who act out of malice and hate, who don’t want to see the other side of a story. There’s a great chasm at times and in seems there is no way to bridge the divides that separate us.
The world could use healing.
The world could use more acts of kindness.
The world could use more love.
We could all use a heaping dose of good news in the world. We could all use friendship and love and understanding. We all could use some acceptance. We need to find a way to reach out to those that are hurting, to love those who hate, to work to be the change. We need to find the magic again.
These should be the usual norm, not some sort of foolish fantasy the cynics like to decry.
Yesterday, I was called delusional over a comment I posted to social media by a person I have never even met, all because I stated I was hopeful for the better of the world. For a brief moment, the words hurt. But then, I laughed.
If being hopeful in this world is delusional, then call me mistaken and misguided, for I will remain ever so.
I choose to stay magical.
I choose to find the good news in the stories.
I choose to keep talking about the moments I enjoy, not to brag or boast, but rather to hopefully be a witness to others, to encourage them to do the same.
And while this week was a heavy week for many in my little corner of the world, I tried to bring some light, some joy, some hope and some magic to the moments. After all, like my favorite witch, I try to keep my head in the clouds, even if my feet are rooted to the ground.
“My mum always said things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end. If not always in the ways we expect”.
~ Luna Lovegood, in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, written by J.K. Rowling
So keep looking for animals in the clouds (as I write this on my laptop outside, a misty hawk floats across the cerulean marvel above me on this beautiful day). Dance in the rain or in the aisle at the grocery store. Find the happiness in a story, the beauty in an old song, the marvel in a walk. Keep finding ways to make your voice be heard in this madness. Keep remaining hopeful, being joy, doing love, acting persistently, and staying magical.
And keep being delusional if that is what it takes to write your own story as you watch the story of life unfold around you.
I know I will.
