I’d like to take a moment to announce that the newest novella in my Portals Series has been released.
This one is titled Little Sprite and was a fun story to write.
I don’t usually do this, but I wanted to explain where one of the ideas of this story came from, since I cannot take the credit for the story all by myself.
When I was in third grade, I was good friends with two other children named Kimmie and Bethany. All of us had parents in the military, so I have long lost track of them.
The three of us, along with maybe a few others, used to play a game called “Flying Unicorns” out in the field of our elementary school before school and during recesses. We each made up a unicorn name and a princess name for ourselves. The bad guy was the Lord of the Shadows and we had to fight him.
We played this game for a good portion of the school year. But like all childhood memories, it became lost in my head as other memories have filled it over the years.
About five years ago, I remembered the game we played and began to write a story about my flying unicorn, Golden Girl, and my princess, Goldie (I was creative as a child, but not THAT creative). I got a small story written, but it went no where. So I filed it away as I did all my other stories that went no where. Since I almost never throw away rough drafts until I have expanded on them, this one sat.
While working on my Portals Series, I started looking through my “no where” files. I was actually looking for a list of names I had come up long ago with for a different story, but found the half-done story on my Princess Goldie and her unicorn Golden Girl. I realized with a bit of tweaking, it could become part of my Portals Series, since I found the perfect hero for the story.
Thus, Little Sprite was created. The story I had written is now the first chapter.
One of my beta readers found it to be a cute and refreshing read. So I hope you enjoy it!
This can be read as a standalone, but there are references to some of the previous works in the series as well.
