My magical and wonderful readers, instead of the usual reflection fare I post on Thursday mornings, I give you an introduction to my newest serial novel, set to debut in June.
Several years ago, I wrote a novel for the now defunct National Novel Writing Month. It was the first time I ever attempted NaNoWriMo and I finished the challenge.
But the story just kind of lingered.
You see, it’s a story about high school in the 1990s and isn’t a fantasy story at all. It’s a story inspired by things that actually happened to me and those in my world. And it was a story I wrote to help process some of those events and moments and conversations and the emotions behind them. But of course, I added some dramatic flair and changed some of the details since it is also a very big work of fiction. And I never really thought about publishing.
But now, years later, after re-reading what I had written (and heavily editing it) and some encouragement from the friends who have read parts of it, I feel it’s time.
So I give you the general fiction story, The Year of the Winding Road by K. S. Wood. It is set to debut on the 7th of June at ten am CDST and just like The Magician had been published, new chapters will release every other Saturday at 10 am CDST (CST in the winter). You can check out the page I created for it here: The Year of the Winding Road. If you’re nostalgic at times for the 1990s, check it out as it’s released. There will be some Easter eggs within the pages.
The year is 1997. The scene is Southern California. Brianna Washington is embarking on her junior year of high school. But that year seems to be as winding as the road a popular song on the radio sings about. Brianna finds friendship, love and some adventure all while dealing with her everyday life, trying to figure out how to balance her own wants and needs against the person her family and friends expect her to be.
When tragedy strikes and her heart is broken, she begins to question where the road of life is winding to. Can she keep the relationships she holds dear alive? Can she get a little bit closer to feeling fine instead of feeling like she’s just a stranger to life? Can she manage the year of the winding road?
Little reminder – you can still read The Magician entirely for free here on my blog, or you can buy the paperback version on Amazon. And of course, I also have an entire fantasy adventure series, my Portals Series, available in paperback, for Kindle, and on Kindle Unlimited.
Stay magical, friends.
