I still have stories to tell

I often tell people I work a full time job and write on the side.

Because, well, that is the absolute truth. The long and short of it is I just don’t know if I could sit at a computer and write all day EVERY day. I need the movement I get from the full time job, the thousands of steps every single shift, the socialization that comes from my job just to be able to come home and unwind and well… write.

Tangent here – This is also why I am not a full time genealogist like some of my family members suggested I become. It is merely the fact that I need movement in my day that helps me focus at the computer after work so that I can do things like write and even research. Okay, end of tangent

I am an independent author, which means I don’t have a publisher. I don’t have a marketer. I don’t have anything really. It’s just me and my computer and a few friends who help me by being beta readers and editors and the like.

But that’s the way I want it.

I didn’t set out to “become famous” or even make tons of money with my writing. (I made just under $62 bucks in 2024.) I set out because I have a story to tell, or rather many stories to tell. And if even one other person besides myself or my other half reads these stories, then I have achieved what I have accomplished.

And that has been accomplished.

Granted, I don’t have a great deal of readers. In fact, I know of about three people who have read all of my books. Most only read a novella or two of my fantasy adventure Portals Series or a couple chapters of my free online serialized novel The Magician and call it a day. Some would deride that and sneer that I must not be doing things right since I have few sales, but I am happy with it. My stories are out there. If people want to read them, awesome. If not, no big deal. I still write anyway.

But that then goes back to the fact that I have a full time job that allows me to do this without much worrying about funds.

It is still a thrill when I get a new review, or someone stating they LOVED a post on this blog, or that they recommended my works to their friends. It’s awesome when I log in to my dashboard on KDP and see that I sold a book or someone read a novella in Kindle Unlimited. It’s even better when someone buys a paperback and insists I sign it. I treasure those moments, even as I don’t go actively seeking them out.

I just continue to write.

Because I do still have a story to tell.

I’ve told the stories of Manda and Temp, Solilune and Tetyana, Silus, Xavier, Mopsa, Garrion, Rhadamanthys the Druid, Albion, Embarre, Kyrbus, Lady Briar, Morogh, Alex, Sigsten, Lyka, Berh, Rena and Esperance (all in my Portals Series). I’ve written about how both Ignace Godding and Vanessa Rankin work to fight against family curses and past mistakes (all in The Magician).

And I have more stories to tell….. of Earvin in a land of giants, of Ariadne fighting off her doubt to become the next Dynast of All She Surveys, of Elpis becoming the next hope of the Realm of Original Magic, of Noor learning to find her purpose in a land of Djinn, of Wilton Smithers learning that he is not as mundane as he was lead to be even as he is persecuted, of Cato learning that he belongs though he is both darkness and light. I am working on a tale of Ignace and Vanessa on new adventures in the city of Lefteria with a trickster named Remy Sheets. I have other portions of the short story Zatanar to rework and post. And finally, there are a few more short stories that were transferred from my now deleted Short Story blog that was originally hosted by the site Blogger.

So I keep writing. I keep imagining. I keep pushing on and finding that magic, the one made from love and peace, hope and joy, light and sparkle. I keep having my adventures, whether they be flights of fancy in my own head or the geocaching ones I try to go on every chance I get. And I keep going, pushing on as I write my own story of life.

I still have stories to tell.

Stay magical, friends.

Write your own stories.

And if you feel inclined….. read a couple of mine!

  1. Aside from the fact that you have a job and I’m retired, you might be telling my story. Yes, I’d like more readers, but I have some who enjoy what I publish and fhat’s enough to keep me writing – for myself and for them. Keep on telling your stories, there’s always somebody who enjoys reading them. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I believe what’s holding me back from going beyond the blog space at this time is the marketing involved to get the book ‘babies’ out in the world. I also work full time, and my ideas for stories are much larger than the time I have available to write.

    1. This.

I have been able to take the next step and work the publishing, but marketing is beyond me since I have limited time outside of the job.

But I also don’t have the resources to push the books the way some do.

I’ll keep writing though, just like you are!

      Thank you for the comment!
