Halloween Town: The Haunted Abbey and The Holler

This is a story about my Halloween Town. I used to put a description of the origins of my villages on every post about my villages, but since I have a whole created page about the Village Stories I have written, check it out there if you have no idea what my Halloween Town is. (Here’s a hint, you need to click the hyperlink in the previous sentence to see it.)

Since we moved to a new abode with MORE SPACE to put my Halloween Town, it’s a little different this year, with an entirely new section. Here’s this year’s photo:

Every so often, the magical powers that be shake, rattle and roll and a new portion of Halloween Town springs to life.

Such was the case for the Haunted Abbey.

Originally, D’Abbey St. Therese was a holy place, full of souls looking for respite. But as time wore on, the parishioners became fewer and fewer as they died off. There was no young blood to replenish the membership.

But the building remained and overtime it fell into disrepair as more and more ghosts haunted it. Eventually, it appeared at the edge of Halloween Town above a pool of slime from Slime River as a new place to reside, if one didn’t mind the ghosts.

It wasn’t long before there were residents. A pair of rehabilitated zombies had just been dropped off. And seeing as how the abbey was a bit secluded, they jumped at the chance to have a place to live. They didn’t mind the slime sewer that ran beneath the abbey. They were just happy to have a place to live that was secluded, given they were rehabilitated zombies and the other inhabitants of Halloween Town were a bit wary of them.

Frank looked at his wife Stella as the moving truck hastily drove away after unloading and smiled.

“Well, dear, here we are. Home sweet home.”

Stella readjusted her straw bonnet. Since she was given a few new brain cells in the rehabilitation surgery, her head just wasn’t the same and getting the hat to sit right was a pain.

“It looks a little worn out, dear.”

“Well, it is Halloween Town, sweets. This here is prime real estate and it is now ours. We’ll just have to use our newly rehabilitated brains and a great deal of elbow grease to get it looking like home.”

Rocky, their zombie-fied pooch, simply barked.

Meanwhile, down in the Holler that separated the east side of Halloween Town from the normal world, Lucinda was doing what she did best…. selling her wares to the normals.

Not much was know about Lucinda, except that she choose an old rickety cottage down in the holler near the abbey to live. She was a potions maker, selling everything from quackery to potent medicines that were hard to come by. She seemed to use some of the slime in her wares, especially to water her flesh-eating plants. And there was a mysterious cauldron that bubbled and brewed near her cottage, fed by some sort of unknown fuel.

Many of the other residents of Halloween Town were wary of Lucinda, only stopping by if they badly needed some sort of potion from her. But the normals from the neighboring town seemed to flock to her booth, making the trek frequently. Perhaps there was something in her wares that only affected them. But one thing was for certain…. Lucinda’s power seemed to grow with each passing day. And her flesh-eating plants seemed to grow larger and larger each year.

Maybe someone should be getting to the bottom of this…….

But until the next time…. stay magical, friends!
