Speak less, listen more, love lots

Despite our differences, we share a greater common ground then we think we do.

But how do we find it?

It’s hard to be curious and not judgmental when we don’t talk to each other. It’s hard to be curious when we think we are the only ones who are special. What would happen if we actually talked to people about the things that divided us? Would we learn a thing or two? Would we all be better for it since we heard others’ stories?

It’s easier to keep us divided when we convince ourselves that we are one hundred percent correct and the other one is wrong. But it isn’t always a black or white with people. There are shades of gray. There are things that we might not find to be atrocious that others do simply because of those aforementioned views. And when all we see are snapshots of people’s lives via what they share or do in our presence, it’s hard to be curious and easier to be judgmental. It’s easier to assume things instead of ask questions. It’s easier to just make up our minds instead of maybe reach out and listen.

What if we all learned to speak less, listen more, and love lots?
