A little evening musing

I’m currently sitting in my backyard, a fire going in my charcoal grill, my stomach satiated with grilled chicken and veggies for my evening meal and my sweet tooth indulged with s’mores made from left over chocolate Easter Bunny. I spent most of the day outside, hiking the trails in a lesser known state preserve a half hour drive from my abode. It was there that I nourished my soul on this day off.

But the trials of daily life press on. There is yard work to do, such as clearing the countless sticks from the yard after the recent high winds that knocked them from the many trees I now own with the other half. Mowing will need to be done too. There’s the inside chores that will need to be gotten to as well, especially with a house guest from another state arrive in less than a week. But for today, I did almost nothing of the sort even though I had the time. I wasn’t lazy, I was just practicing self-care. And for me, that means getting outdoors and hiking in the woods.

And I still am doing some self care as I sit and type this on my laptop in my camp chair near the aforementioned fire. The sun is setting in the west as the fire crackles with some of those branches that have fallen. The birds sing their melodies from their perches as the breezes blow tendrils of my hair across my face. The sounds of children playing and lawnmowers buzzing meld with street traffic here in my neighborhood on the south side of the state capital. And even though I am in the midst of a city, in the flight path of the international airport, there is some magic here, waiting and watching. There is peace here. There is hope for nights just like this one. There is joy. There is love.

Stay magical, friends.
