Life happens. Enjoy it while you can.

So sometime in the past day or so, I lost a citrine gemstone from the ring my other half had special ordered for me almost two years ago for our fifteenth wedding anniversary. Somehow in the course of packing, moving, cleaning or whatever, one of the prongs opened and the stone simply fell out.

One of the voices in my head, ingrained long in there from childhood, has been rearing its ugly head since I discovered the stone was missing. It’s yelling things like:

“You shouldn’t have been wearing it!” ”This is why you can’t have nice things!” ”You can’t take care of anything, can you?” ”You should have been more careful!”

After berating myself for a little bit, there was another voice, loud and clear.

Life happens.Enjoy what you have while you have it.

And that’s the truth. Had I only worn the ring my other half had made for me ONLY for special occasions, there would still be a chance a prong would open and a gem would have fallen out. But the other half ordered it for me to wear as a symbol of his love. I was meant to wear it for every occasion. It was ordered to be enjoyed. And I have worn it almost every day since he gave it to me as a result.

While I am bummed about a gemstone being lost, I know I can get the stone replaced in due time. Perhaps something better will come along. But I know I enjoyed the ring as it was for nearly two full years. I will still embrace the fact that my other half got it for me in the first place. And I will continue to cherish it regardless of the voices in my head that tell me I shouldn’t enjoy everything life has to offer.

Life happens. So whether you save the fancy dishes for a special occasion or get it out for a mundane meal, enjoy it. Whether you get gussied up to go out for a night on the town or just to the grocery store, have fun. Wear the fun clothes. Use the fancy napkins. Eat a meal on the special plates. Enjoy the ring that was special ordered for you, even if it is missing a gemstone (though I am leaving it in my jewelry box until I can get it checked out, just so I can make sure the other prongs aren’t loose as well). For you never know when the fancy dishes will just gather dust, the pretty clothes will hang in a closet for eternity, or the jewelry will remain forgotten in a box.

Life happens.

Enjoy it while you have it.

Stay magical, friends.

  1. Wonderful reminders for stop saving the good stuff for later. What if later never comes? Appreciate the gift, enjoy the heck out of it, mourn the day it wears out (or you lose a stone) and tuck away all the pleasure it gave you while you had it. 💞💞💞
