New year, same story

It’s been a crazy start to the new year, but it’s been a welcoming start.

For those who don’t know, last week the other half and I closed on our very first home. The past week has been a whirlwind of cleaning the new to us house, painting the interior walls, doing some minor repairs that needed to be done, and now…. packing things in our rented abode little by little and moving them to the new place. Friends have helped and have promised to help, which makes the load a little easier. But it’s still a chaotic time.

It will be a crazy month.

It feels almost magical that we did this as the old year was closing and the new year was ringing in. It’s a new year, which traditionally means new beginnings. What better way to start of the year than to be in a new house, right?

But yet, I am writing the same story, this story of life that started in the beginning with a birth and will end, hopefully, sometime in the far future with a demise. It’s a new year, but it’s my same story.

As I pack up belongings, parsing out what will go and what will be donated or trashed, I find myself ruminating on the past, reminiscing of years gone by in this rented abode and in other places I have lived in. But I also am looking forward, hoping magically that this new to us place will be a source of inspiration instead of frustration, a sense of calm peace, joyful moments, loving care, and ever hopeful dreams.

After all, I am still seeking that wonderful story of life, writing it chapter by chapter. While this chapter is closing, a new one begins.

Isn’t that just about poetically true about this time of year anyway?

Even as we’ve penned the stories of our lives thus far, we all are still seeking something. We all still watchfully hope, ever vigilant that something good is just beyond the horizon. We wait, ever hopeful, ever joyful, ever peaceful, ever loving for that good magic to come. And when it does, we relish it.

It’s in this time of year that we bring our lives, our hopes, our dreams, our relationships, OUR STORIES forward and examine them, looking for ways to better the story and the magic. We are all different generations, with different hopes and dreams and lives, but our stories comingle, weaving together the hopes and dreams and relationships for the betterment of all.

This past year has been a blessing to me, as I already posted about here. But I also look forward to this coming year. I hope it is as good as this past year, if not better. But while it’s a new year, it’s the same story for me. It’s just another chapter to write.

Dear friends, my wonderful readers who keep me going…. may this be a good year for you, even if it is nothing special. May each day bring forth a bit of magic, even if the chapter of this year is a quiet and calm one for you. May we all remember the lessons we have learned and use them to make this year the best one yet.

May we be bold and fearless, stepping out into the new even when it scares us.

May we learn to drink in all that surrounds us, reveling in the moments that make up the magic and the stories we write.

May we learn to be fruity, cultivating that love and joy, peace and patience, kindness and generosity, faith and gentleness, and yes even a bit of self-control.

May we resist all that drags us down, remembering the silver linings in the storm clouds and the magic of friendship that we can lean on in times of trouble (or even times of upheaval from moving – I have been reminded of this time and time again the past couple of weeks).

May we learn to take time for ourselves. After all, we cannot be the magic the world needs if we don’t have our own magic replenished. An empty pitcher cannot pour water. Rest is needed, as are these moments of writing for me.

May we continue to look forward to the good things in life, the new houses and the wonderful gifts, the moments that make up a story and the little glimmers of happiness we see in a day. Find something that makes you grin, be it a silly sticker on the back of your car or a stuffed unicorn hammock in the corner of your new office. May we learn to dream big, hope more, be inspired by life to do great things and be more loving.

It’s a new year. But it’s our same story.

Stay magical.
